There is no greater an example of a Blacksheep than that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin was a pastor and leader of the Civil Rights Movement from 1954 until his assignation in 1968. He fought for the equality of all people using his the lessons of Jesus Christ through his Christian faith as well acts of nonviolence inspired by Mahatma Ghandi.

There are so many profound things he’s said. I could literally write pages based on his quotes alone. There a couple that really prick my heart. But I’ll only leave you with one that really stands out to me. Dr. King once said “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

This message is such a timely one. We are currently living in a climate where hatred and darkness are almost the norm. But I believe that ,especially as Christians, it’s now more than ever that we follow the words Christ spoke in Mathew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”

Love is and will always be the answer, especially when faced with adversity. Dr. King showed us how to truly love, not just in our words, but in our actions. Let’s all follow in his example and boldly love, even when it’s not convenient.
